My photography journey:
My first venture into photography was a vocational program when I was 17 years old. After completing that, I knew I wanted photography to be my career path. I chose photography because at an early age I was diagnosed with dyslexia, and I quickly learned that a traditional educational plan was not ideal for me… I just see things differently. The creative environment in art school allowed me to complete assignments using more than just words on a page. I graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado in 2005 with an Outstanding Achievement award for my portfolio. I chose AIC because of its commercial emphasis, as I already knew that the architectural niche was what I wanted to pursue professionally.
After graduation, I worked at AIC full-time on a small team that managed the Media Services equipment library. We managed a 10-bay commercial photo studio, a full wet darkroom (one of the biggest in the city), a digital darkroom complete with 20 Giclée Epson printers, a video studio with a production control room, multiple computer labs and tons more.
In the years after AIC, I worked as a photo assistant to many very prolific architectural photographers from around the country. During that time I just tried to be a sponge and be influenced by some really amazing photographic minds.
